چکیده
Real-time simulation and animation of 3D global deformations is the bottleneck of many applications, such as surgical simulator. In this paper, we present a system that simulates physically realistic large deformations of soft objects in real-time. We achieve the physical realism by modeling the global deformation using geometrically nonlinear finite element methods. We achieve real-time dynamic simulation of models of reasonable complexity by preprocessing the LUfactorization of a small number of large matrices. To reduce the time and space required for such a preprocess, and the time of the back-substitution, we apply modified nested dissection to reorder the finite element mesh. We also introduce an efficient method that handles deformable object collisions with almost no extra cost.

Procrustean statistical inference of deformations
A two step method has been devised for the statistical inference of deformation changes. In the first step of this method and based on Procrustes analysis of deformation tensors, the significance of the change in a time or space series of deformation tensors is statistically analyzed. In the second step significant change(s) in deformations are localized. In other words, they are assigned to ce...
متن کاملA Two-Stage Strategy for Real-Time Dense 3D Reconstruction of Large-Scale Scenes
The frame-to-global-model approach is widely used for accurate 3D modeling from sequences of RGB-D images. Because still no perfect camera tracking system exists, the accumulation of small errors generated when registering and integrating successive RGB-D images causes deformations of the 3D model being built up. In particular, the deformations become significant when the scale of the scene to ...
متن کاملReal-Time Global Illumination of Deformable Objects
Existing real-time rendering methods for global illumination use precomputation to simplify runtime computations, but constrain scene geometry to be rigid. This constraint greatly restricts the practical application of these techniques to interactive graphics. This research uses a data-driven approach to support real-time rendering of global illumination effects on deformable surfaces under low...
متن کاملPerceptually validated global/local deformations
Modal analysis techniques are often used to animate deformable objects in real time. In order to achieve performance improvements, the degrees of freedom of the problem may be reduced by using the main global deformations alone. However, this can lead to a reduction in quality and realism due to the lack of local behaviors. To solve this problem, we present a new method to add local deformation...
متن کاملInteractive Global and Local Deformations for Virtual Clay
Making virtual modeling as easy and intuitive as realclay manipulation is still an unsolved problem. This paper takes a step in this direction: in addition to offering standard features such as addition and removal of material, it uses a new real-time plasticity model to let the user apply local and global deformations such as those made in real clay by pressing with a finger or bending a sculp...
